Most stocks rose Friday, extending a two-week jump that has added 11 percent to the stock market's major indicators.
Disappointing results from Microsoft Corp. and Amazon.com Inc. hit technology shares, however, and dragged the Nasdaq composite index lower.

A philanthropist and former Microsoft Corp. executive who built a big-time company with small-town people is the recipient of North Dakota's highest honor, the Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider award.
Gov. John Hoeven presented Doug Burgum with the award during a surprise ceremony Friday at Microsoft's Fargo campus, where Burgum served as the company's senior vice president.
Burgum is the 37th person to receive the award, given first in 1961 to entertainer Lawrence Welk.

A MAN has critical head injuries and another is in a serious condition after a street fight in Seville Grove, near Armadale, about 1.30am this morning.
Police performed CPR on the critically injured man until the arrival of St John Ambulance paramedics.
Fence pickets, stones and bottles were used in the fight, Insp Gary Lewis said.

There may be additional e-mails that could have tipped off law enforcement or military officials to the Fort Hood shooter before he went on his deadly rampage, the chairman of the Senate Armed Forces Committee said Friday.
The U.S. government intercepted at least 18 e-mails between Hasan and Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical American-born cleric.
They were passed along to two Joint Terrorism Task Force cells led by the FBI , but a senior defense official said no one at the Defense Department knew about the messages until after the shootings.

A British couple kidnapped from their yacht in October by pirates pleaded for their life in a video broadcast on Britain's Channel 4 Friday, warning that their captors were running out of patience and could kill them if no ransom is paid.
The Somali pirates have demanded $7 million for Paul and Rachel Chandler, taken from the 38-foot Lynn Rival just days after the couple set sail from the Seychelles islands for Tanzania.

As he promised earlier on his blog, Reinaldo Escobar went to the intersection of Havana's 23rd and G avenues for the proposed discussion.
On Thursday, Escobar's wife posted President Barack Obama's responses to her written questions on Cuba-United States relations on her "Generacion Y" blog.
