Marines treated at Camp Lejeune for post-traumatic stress had to undergo therapy for months in temporary trailers where they can hear bomb blasts, machine-gun fire and war cries through the thin walls, according to servicemen and their former psychiatrist.
The eight trailers were used for nearly two years, until a permanent clinic was completed in September in an additional location on the base, said a Camp Lejeune medical spokesman, Navy Lt. j.g. Mark Jean-Pierre.

Given PTSD is the most frequent diagnostic group we see, one would question the sense of locating a clinic in such close proximity to the booming of bombs shake the trailer, the ratta-tat-tat of machine gun fire and the almost daily occurrence of grunts yelling war cries -Kernan Manion

A former Marine was charged Friday with six counts of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of four people whose bodies were found in a burning home, including a prostitute featured on the HBO reality series "Cathouse."
David Allen Tyner, 28, of Locust Grove, is accused of shooting, stabbing and then burning the bodies of Brooke Phillips, Milagrous Barrera, Jennifer Ermey, 25, and Mark Barrientos, 32, at a southwest Oklahoma City home.
Because Phillips and Barrera, both 22, were pregnant, two more murder counts were filed.

Opponents of a federally funded firearms training center proposed in Kerrville are attacking the project as a waste of money, a safety hazard, and a threat to property values and peace of mind.
A tentative deal struck in September calls for the FBI to give $1.33 million to Kerrville to build and operate the facility, where law officers from across the region would train.
The designated site is 86 acres on the city landfill grounds off Loop 534, about one-half mile from Tivy High School.

For more than two decades, Oprah Winfrey has been the inspirational, change-your-life champion who reigned over daytime television much like Johnny Carson once ruled late night.
Now she's ready to say goodbye, leaving a huge void for broadcast TV even as she raises the possibility of more Oprah than ever when she starts her own cable network.
Winfrey told viewers Friday that she will dim the lights on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" at the close of its 25th season in late 2011.

Am I nervous that this rally might end?
Well, yes and no. Yes, a correction is long overdue and could come at any time, but only a short and shallow one.

Former Vivendi CEO Jean-Marie Messier told a jury Friday he made mistakes in his troubled bid to turn the French water company into a global media giant, but he never misled shareholders about the risks.
Messier said he strove in good faith to build the company, but he didn't foresee technological limitations and worldwide financial problems that contributed to its near-bankruptcy in 2002.
"Some of my management decisions turned wrong, but fraud? No. Never. Never. Never," he said, testifying ...

Federal authorities said Friday that they had struck a blow against a major Mexican drug trafficking group operating in the Chicago area, indicting 15 members responsible for one of the more significant cocaine distribution networks there.
